Love from the Land of the Rising Sun
We like to introduce everyone to Peter & Van, a couple with an unforgettable journey and a passion for travel. Long story short, they met in Nebraska (don’t all Asians meet romantically in Omaha?), currently live in Japan, had an engagement ceremony in Oregon and will be getting married next spring in Hawaii. Got it? It’s planes, trains, and automobile but with a more romantic twist than the beloved Steve Martin and John Candy.
When I exchange emails and finally met Peter and Van, I knew right away that they were a great match. They both are a bit silly (they say awkward but I say silly), love their families, food, travel and exude passion and pride for each other’s lives.
Throughout our relationship, every time we talked about both of our futures separately – we were always in each others’ plans.
There were numerous moments throughout our relationship that made me knew that he was the one. However, if I had to pinpoint a moment it would be after he met my ENTIRE family (Long’s wedding). Due to his busy work schedule he was only able to fly into Oregon for about 24 hours to attend my brother’s wedding. I told him he didn’t have to come but because he knew how important my family is to me he made the trip anyway. He was able to meet everyone and had a great time. I knew that I wanted and could spend the rest of my life with this person because he fits right into my big family and got along so well with both my parents (the two other most important people in my life)! Also, I like the fact that both of our families are important to us. We share similar values and morals. – Van
They recently travelled to Oregon from Japan, where Peter is stationed for the USAF, to celebrate with their respective families in a traditional Vietnamese engagement ceremony. In Vietnamese culture, the engagement ceremony marks the beginning of their marital journey where both families met to enjoy food, introduced the good and bad family members, and discussed the upcoming wedding plans. In reality, it was just a big party with great traditional food and wonderful friends that celebrated their upcoming nuptials:)
When we started dating I knew she was a special and rare girl. She’s kind, caring, beautiful, forgiving, and open-minded…We take a lot of pictures together, and I like the first two (both in Omaha in my apartment) because it reminds me of how far we’ve come and also how at the time we had no idea we would be where we are today in our relationship. – Peter
We had a chance to take Peter and Van out to take some photos the day after their engagement. As you can tell by the photos, they have something really special and it’s not just that 1960 Corvette. We definitely can’t wait for their wedding in Hawaii because we all know it will be an unforgettable event to celebrate such a beautiful relationship. Safe travels and we’ll see you soon!
